Canatur ensures that Rally Dakar 2019 will promote new tourist destinations in Peru

Canatur asegura que Rally Dakar 2019 impulsará nuevos destinos turísticos en Perú

Today, the 2019 Dakar Rally that will run for five days in five Peruvian regions: Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. In this regard, the National Chamber of Tourism of Peru (Canatur) stressed that the sporting event will boost new tourist destinations in our country, mainly south of Lima, because it will put Peru in the eyes of the whole world.

“Definitely the Dakar puts us in the showcase of sports tourism in the world even more when all its sequences will be made in our country. The challenge of Promperu is to use that platform to show the benefits of tourism that our country has, “said the president of Canatur, Carlos Canales.

He explained that Peru is considered in the world as an Andean country, for which the Dakar 2019 represents an excellent opportunity to show the “wonderful” coast of our country.

“There are almost 2,500 kilometers of coastline that borders the Pacific Ocean, which can be exhibited to the world as a tourist attraction. It is the opportunity for international tourists to see Peru as an important destination of beaches, “he said.

On the other hand, Carlos Canales said that the 2019 Dakar will also allow our country to show its pre-Inca cultural potential, which has developed largely in the coastal area.

“This will also be an opportunity to show not only fossil remains, which is part of our paleontology, but also the ancient cultures that have existed on the coast of the country,” he said.

Also, the trade union representative said that another highlight during the 2019 Dakar will be the Peruvian cuisine. “We have to show food from Arequipa, Ica, Tacneña or Miqueguana. Everyone knows the ceviche, ají de gallina or lomo saltado and it’s time to expand the menu, “he said.

On the other hand, he clarified that, although the realization of the 2019 Dakar in our country is important, the event will not have a significant impact on receptive tourism.

“I do not believe that more than 5,000 foreign tourists come because the event does not generate a strong attraction of receptive tourism, but it is a great showcase to show the benefits that Peru has,” said the president of Canatur, told Andina news agency.
