Stéphane Peterhansel spent the new year in Cusco and Cyril Despres wants to do the Inca Trail on foot
The French pilots Stéphane Peterhansel and Cyril Despres, multi-champions who will participate in the Dakar 2019, highlighted the great tourist attraction that Peru has, as well as the variety of destinations offered to the world for the practice of adventure sports.
A few days of participating in the 100% Peruvian Dakar, Peterhansel, who is looking for his 14th title in the toughest off-road competition, and his wife Andrea, who will also race in the 2019 Dakar Rally, decided to spend the New Year in the city of Cusco. Both, between December 27 and January 2, visited the Sacred Valley and the citadel of Machu Picchu.
“I was shocked by the strength and hospitality I experienced prior to the Dakar 2019. I have no doubt that Machu Picchu is indeed one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. After this visit, I think it would be great to have an adventure experience, either on a motorcycle by car, through the mountains of Peru, “stressed Stéphane Peterhansel, during his stay.
On the other hand, Cyril Despres, who is also part of the X-raid Mini JCW team, confessed to being an enthusiastic adventure vacationer. For this reason, the French pilot wants to run the Camino del Inca route once he meets the family and contractual obligations that he has.
“Whenever I have vacations, I seek, together with my wife, places of adventure. We have already put date to our visit, but, unlike Stéphane [Peterhansel], we will do the Inca Trail on foot. It will be a unique experience and I am sure that I can get my most adventurous side on a magical route in Peruvian altitude, “said the multi-champion motorcycle.
Meanwhile, the German Annett Fischer, pilot of the GirlsForDakar team, and Sven Quandt, owner of the X-raid team, also visited Cusco with the husbands Peterhansel. Both witnessed the hospitality and kindness of the Peruvians, who always welcome with open arms the national and foreign visitors.
